Cañas Castilla is a 68 hectares farm situated in the northwest Costa Rica, on the river Sapoa. It consists mainly of hilly country, growing various types of trees, bush and grasses.
On 7 hectares we grow oranges, pineapple and bananas. For our own consumption we grow a lot of fruit trees like anona, avocado, guayaba, cacao, coconut, mango, cashew, papaya, passionfruit, starfruit, tamarindo and lemon.

Fauna
Fantastic possibilities are offered for watching and taking pictures of the animal world. With alert eyes it‘s possible to see: Howler- and spydermonkeys, two-toed sloths, squirrels, armadillos, northern racoon and anteaters. Birdwatchers may discover many species such as kingfishers, hummingbirds, cattle egrets, oropendola, parrots and toucans.
Ornithologists and entomologists will have fun making very interesting determinations. For lovers of amphibian and reptiles the farm Cañas Castilla is an ideal place, to watch the animals in their natural surroundings. A small selection of them you can see in our Serpentarium. The immense diversity of the insect- and butterfly-varieties will enthuse every naturelover and photographer.
Flora
The farm is located in the climate zone of the tropical dry rain forest. The privileged geographical location, 10° north of the equator, reward visitors with a strange, fascinating and colored variety of tropical vegetation. By a relative humidity between 70-85% and temperatures from 23-35° celsius all year round grow agaven, bamboo. |
